While never having been a great fan of garlic, I previously tolerated it and included it in my diet without any problems.
But things changed...
About ten years ago, garlic started to irritate me and things turned really bad when I breathed in the fumes from heated garlic. My wife had to stop eating one of her favourite ingredients, because if she cooked anything containing garlic in our kitchen, I had to vacate the apartment for half a day.
Sow how exactly does it bother me?
First, I start to cough. If I don't evacuate the are immediately, the coughing becomes continuous, tears fill my eyes and I start to have breathing problems, like the feeling of being strangled from a blocked windpipe. I sweat and suffer panic attacks, ultimately fall down to the floor and lie there gasping for air while hoping to not pass out until it's over.
I hardly think that it's a fatal thing, but very unpleasant each time it happens.
The strange thing is that I can touch fresh garlic without any reaction, which only starts when garlic is being heated.
But I avoid eating it, since just the though of it makes me nauseous and unwell.

Garlic can be an ingredient without appearing on the declaration, camouflaged as "spices". The producers can do that if the amount is small enough, but it may still trigger an allergic reaction to sensitive consumers. So if you are afraid, better avoid food with such unspecified expressions.

Most people don't want to inflict such violent reactions to themselves by consuming food containing allergens.
