My choice of username is self-sarcastic, since I try to eliminate as much salt as I can from my food intake. I have not been told this by a doctor, so it's not really a medical issue, but something I have chosen for health reasons.
I know that we need salt to survive, but we get more than enough through eating food that contains salt, so there should be no reason to add it as a spice.
Too much salt rises the blood pressure, increases the risk for getting cardiovascular diseases, bloating, brain stroke and cancer, impairs the cognitive brain centers, may lead to oedema and swelling, gives you a craving for more salty and unhealthy food, lets your kidneys work overtime and may trigger type 2 diabetes.

Welcome, salty ! Thanks for your valuable input! I hope to see more of you. Many people eat way too much salt and fortunately, it seems as if the health authorities in some countries have become worried, too.

Too little salt is almost as bad as too much, so it's a matter of finding the optimal balance. Without salt, you easily gets dehydrated, your vascular system suffers, your electrolytes balance and nervous system go haywire, you can get muscle cramps and serious problems with yur sleep. So think about that before you decide that salt is your enemy!

Maintaining a correct salt balance is more difficult than what we think.

Salt and sodium are often used interchangeably, but are they the same thing? Not exactly.
Sodium is a mineral that occurs naturally in foods or is added during manufacturing - or both.
Now, let’s look at table salt, which is a combination of sodium and chloride. By weight, table salt is approximately 40% sodium and 60% chloride. About 90% of the sodium we eat is in the form of sodium chloride. The rest comes from other forms of sodium (like baking soda, which is the common name for sodium bicarbonate) that show up in our food. These sodium-containing ingredients are used in food to preserve it, enhance the color or give it a firmer texture, for example.

Table salt is created by superheating natural salt to 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit, which destroys most beneficial compounds. Fortified with essential iodine, table salt is also bleached and devoid of trace elements, so it's certainly not the healthiest salt you can shake. This type of salt can often contains additives to slow moisture absorption so it is easy to sprinkle in your salt shaker. Some experts claim that this highly refined version of salt is responsible for many sodium-related health issues, whereas unrefined salts heal the body instead of harming it.
One such salt is called Himalayan Pink, because it comes from ancient seabeds in the Himalayan mountains. The pink color comes from the rich iron content. This salt is, in fact, quite rich in minerals, containing all 84 essential trace elements required by your body. Pink salt can assist in many bodily functions, such as reducing muscle cramps, promoting blood sugar health and promoting healthy pH in your cells, which is essential to reduce the risk of cancer. Many experts recommend pink salt as one of the healthiest salts you can consume. Its popularity has made it more affordable than other more exotic salts on the market.

Dietary salt restriction is advised - and indeed required - for most that have high blood pressure and/or chronic kidney disease.

Also, my parents were always careful about salt. They tried not to add salt to food, to eat everything without flavor enhancers. And I do the same. No ketchup, because it has a lot of sugar. Thank you for your post.
