Some celebrities have started trends that urge you to eat this, but not that. Many follow their example uncritically and they may thus expose their body to harm unintentionally.
Also, quite a few myths and urban legends have developed in this wake, like 'all genetically modified food is harmful'.

In 1999, Coca Cola was accused of causing food poisoning in belgium, while the real culprit eventually was discovered to be contaminated chicken. But before the waters calmed again, a mass hysteria had destroyed Coca Cola's reputation for a long time, after the sales had actually been banned for ten days in several European countries and more than 30 million bottles/cans had been withdrawn from the market.
Yes, hydrogen sulphide was found in a few bottles, which gave the drink a peculiar smell, but the real illness existed only in the consumers' and medical academics' minds.

Orthorexia nervosa is a term for people that are overly obsessive about eating healthy food. Yes, there's actually an eating disorder for people too focused on eating healthier. In the worst case, someone with orthorexia nervosa can become so obsessive-compulsive and fearful about eating anything that's not healthy that they become unhealthy, socially isolated and potentially self-destructive.
