Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products - particularly in diet - and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. Dietary vegans (or strict vegetarians) refrain from consuming animal products, not only meat, but also eggs, dairy products and other animal-derived substances. The term ethical vegan is often applied to those who not only follow a vegan diet, but extend the philosophy into other areas of their lives and oppose the use of animals for any purpose. Another term is environmental veganism, which refers to the avoidance of animal products on the premise that the industrial farming of animals is environmentally damaging and unsustainable.

The way I see it, the biggest problem with a vegan diet is to get enough Omega 3. To keep systemic inflammations in check, iit's important to maintain an optmal balance between the intake of two fatty acids called Omega 3 and Omega 6. Unfortunately for vegans, there are far more plant-based foods that are rich in Omega 6 than Omega 3. Given this, vegans must find clever ways to specifically include Omega 3 in their diet. Yes, Omega 3 is found in plants, too, but they're often accompanied by even higher levels of Omega 6, meaning they aren't particularly useful for supplementation. There is one plant-based source though with high Omega 3 and low-Omega 6, which is flax seeds. While it is possible to consume enough flax oil to get an adequate Omega 3 level, it is much less efficient than eating krill or fish oil, which is out of the question for vegans of course. Therefore, it's recommended that they eat plant-based Omega 3 supplements.

Sometimes, veganism tends to turn into a militant movement of ardent meat-haters and enemies of animals that want the world to follow their ideas and harass everybody else. Sorry, but I don't have any sympathy for such people.
