While many people cannot eat various food items because it's harmful to their health, others have chosen to restrict their intake for a wide range of reasons.
Some want to lose weight, so they set up different diets with that in mind.
Others may think that a certain mix of ingredients is more healthy, so they make their choice based on that.
Certain indivuduals even stop eating and drinking stuff because they think it's cool and trendy.
Finally, we have those that eliminate meat and fish because of animal welfare, the climate and various political or personal reasons.
This sub-board deals with such attitudes.

One aspect about choosing this food over that is one's personal economy. Sometimes. the thickness of your wallet dicates the agenda and poor people cannot affort a healthy diet. When incomes drop and family budgets shrink, food choices tend to shift towards cheaper but more energy-dense foods. The first items dropped are usually high-quality proteins, whole grains, vegetables and fruit. Low cost energy-rich starches, added sugars and vegetable fats represent the cheapest way to fill hungry stomachs.

I strongly dislike militant people that try to bully others into thinking that their own chosen diet is the only valid one. It's like they are on a religious crusade of sorts.

If someone goes to the trouble of making you a meal from scratch in their home; and takes all your needs and restrictions into place, it's part of your role as a guest to at least try everything you can safely eat (particulary if you have no intolerances, allergies, etc.).
