If you're planning a big party and don't want too many special dishes for individual participands, you should at least avoid the following ingredients:
-Milk, except for lactose-free types -Eggs -Shellfish -Peanuts -Gluten (standard wheat flour) -Soy
Then, there are the vegetarians and vegans to consider, not to mention halal and kosher if you expect Muslim and Jewish guests.
Sigh. It's not easy to host a party these day with so many dietary restrictions.

A party, contrary to reputation, is not all about the food. Keep the focus on the experience of coming together and try to be as inclusive as possible with foods that please various family and friends. The host may not whip up a gourmet vegan meal, but there should be at least something for everybody to nibble on.

Alcohol isn't a requirement for every party, but many people expect it to be present ― or at the very least allowed ― during most get-togethers. Alcohol can take the edge off of meeting new people and make everyone more comfortable. But because not everyone drinks alcohol, make sure you to have non-alcoholic alternatives available (e.g. non-alcoholic punch, sodas, juices and virgin cocktails).
Be sure to have ice and mixers. BYOB (Bring Your Own Booze) is a good idea, but let your guests know beforehand to avoid confusion. Serve each guest their first drink and let them know where they can find everything they need to serve themselves later on. This will also give you more time to mingle with your guests.

Find out whether their dietary restriction is an allergy, an autoimmune issue or simply a dietary preference. This will determine how careful you need to be about cross contamination. (Allergy and autoimmune = be extremely careful.)

As a host, reach out to each guest to ask if they have any dietary restrictions! If they do, be sure you understand the details of their particular needs! Not every case is the same, so don't make any assumptions! Also, keep a detailed record of all the related information for future references!
