Alcohol contains an enzyme that enhanses the production of stomach acid. When it's already too acid in my case, there shouldn't be any reason to add fuel to the fire, so to speak.
Because of the above, Alcohol causes nasty tendencies to heartburn and an acid reflux that could actually kill me if it happens during the night and fills the windpipe while I sleep.
So I avoid alcohol, except for some very small amounts in sauces and desserts, where the active ingredients have already evaporated long ago and left aromatic substances that neither get you drunk nor have any harmful effects.

Alcohol can also cause an allergic reaction that may even be fatal. It can manefest itself in the form of flushed skin, nausea and headache. Since these symptoms are also compatible with those of alcohol abuse, it can lead you to misdiagnose the condition and thereby overlook the possibility for an alcohol allergy or an intolerance to ingredients within alcohol.
