If you have psoriasis, you may take medication and keep close tabs on the weather, your stress level and other triggers.
A healthy diet with lots of fruits and veggies, lean protein and whole grains is a good idea for everyone. But some people diagnosed with psoriasis say their eating habits can affect their skin.
There's no scientific proof that staying away from certain foods or following a specific diet will help your condition. But what you eat and drink may make a difference.

There's no scientific proof that staying away from certain foods or following a specific diet will help your condition. Wrong. Both red meat and dairy, especially eggs, contain a polyunsaturated fatty acid called arachidonic acid. Research has shown that its by-products may play a role in creating psoriatic lesions. Therefore, you should seek to avoid: * Red meat, especially beef * Sausage, bacon and other processed red meats * Eggs and egg dishes

Let's have a closer look at red meat. Fatty red meat tends to contain higher levels of cholesterol and saturated fat. Opt for leaner proteins like chicken, fish, tofu and beans. For an occasional meal with beef, choose lean cuts (like round, loin or sirloin) and trim off as much fat as you can before cooking.

Overweight or obese people have a greater chance of getting psoriasis and their symptoms tend to be worse. Studies suggest that your skin may get better if you shed extra pounds. This may be because fat cells make certain proteins that can trigger inflammation and make the condition worse.
You might eat smaller portions, limit carbs or fat; or follow a combination of diet strategies your doctor recommends.
